The Donkey
The Donkey series from ISOKON are started for Penguin books from the late 1930's.

Final Concept
The final design follows previous Donkey furniture language yet provides highly multi-functional small storage in small space. The top surface section is removable as a breakfast tray function when customers are sitting on a sofa or a bed and want to use a laptop or read a book. Also, this design, in contrast with original Donkey series, allows customers to store any sizes objects on the middle section.

Dimension

Live Brief
Design and manufacture high quality prototype stage, a specific furniture typology - the portable free-standing storage form - as typified by the Penguin Donkey. The design must be able to be produced using the technology of CNC routing, although you may choose to make your donkey using gigs, where necessary, and hand-routing machines.

Prototyping
My Donkey design has changed depending how the top surface fix with the bottom part. At first it used biscuit joint, however, there has a problem that laminating plywood shape is changeable. Therefore, the design has changed to dovetail halving jont.

Manufacture
My design was unstable when I made a cardboard prototype but I was sure for the structure of model is working. Therefore, through scale modelling I was able to identify it was stable structure. However, laminating plywood was another problem. Depending how I bend a plywood it was easily change the angle and shape. There are two ways of laminating a plywood yet I used an air press machine. This manufacture was able to test to how this process is different with expectation.
